In Phase III of this site's development, these raw VDMs will be processed into structure and intensity parameters in real-time. Until then, users are invited to browse the VDMs from past storms that occurred in the North Atlantic, Northeast Pacific, and Central Pacific basins from 1989-current. Keep in mind that not all storms are reconnoitered - for aircraft to be sent, a storm usually has to be (a) within range, and (b) a threat to land. About two-thirds of North Atlantic storms are reconnoitered, while a much lower proportion of Northeast and Central Pacific systems are flown.
